Women who are successful see style differently

Women who are successful see style differently and it's easy to see how it's linked with success.

I wouldn't mind betting that you've reached your current level of success by taking a few risks along the way.

You've spoken up in meetings where you felt intimidated.

You've pursued opportunities that others found scary.

You've thrown yourself into your work to such a great degree that you left nothing on the table. There was no Plan B.

Something drove you to take those risks.

And this aligns with one key way that successful women think differently about their style, not just their life. They don't play it safe.

If our highest goal is 'safe' or 'acceptable' style, that's not exciting at all.

Think about it - is there any other areas of success where 'ok' is good enough?

We wouldn't tolerate 'just ok' leadership skills, or team performance, or reputation or relationships.

In the pursuit of the exceptional, acceptable is not ok.

Yet... style that is just acceptable tends to be the main styling goal for many women.

This might look like wearing the same clothes to most occasions. Or feeling you've only got one or two outfits that really work for your life. Or often feeling like you have nothing to wear, because you've got nothing that is just right.

Women who have successful careers have realised that how they turn up matters because their presence sets the tone for how others will see and respect them.

In the words of an executive friend of mine: "At this level, it's so important - presence is everything."

That's why my clients are not just trying to avoid criticism, they are instead turning up in a way that is attuned to their role and environment and authentic to who they are. And they ensure that their style supports them to carry a presence that is authoritative
