When you feel you need more experience before going public

A lot of women talk about being more visible some day... at a distant point. 

“I just need a bit more experience.” 

“Once I tighten up my message, I’ll start putting myself out there.” 

“I'm not quite there yet.” 

It sounds reasonable. You could even say it sounds strategic. 

But let's take a closer look at that. 

You might be holding back because you don’t want to be seen as anything less than perfect, and visibility feels risky. 

If that's so, it’s less about lack of expertise or experience, and more about fear of being judged. 

I have absolutely been in this position. 

Nowadays, I work with women who are at various stages of visibility - from starting out to having a global presence. 

I've seen that we tend to respond to this challenge in certain ways. 

At the beginning we are ambitious and accomplished. So we polish. We prepare. We make extra sure no one has grounds for criticism. 

And meanwhile, the real us—our actual presence—is nowhere to be found. 

But that stops us from being powerful.

The women who have stepped into being powerful know that being present takes practice of a different kind.
